PhD project analysing the relationship between state petroleum companies and the state in Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Russia. Looking at Russia’s Gazprom, Azerbaijan’s SOCAR and Kazakhstan’s KazMunayGaz, the aim is to provide a better understanding of the many links between politics and economics in the petroleum sector in the post-Soviet area. This will in turn give insights into the political culture and business environment of the countries in question, as well as the role of petroleum resources in domestic affairs and foreign relations.
