Current research

John Karlsrud is currently undertaking a Ph.D: "Normative Formation in International Organizations:  A Case-study of UN Peacekeeping Operations" at the Department of Politics and International Studies, University of Warwick, supervised by Prof. Leonard Seabrooke and Prof. Stuart Croft.

At NUPI, John is leading the project Contextualizing peacebuilding activities to local circumstances. He is also part of the Training for Peace programme, working on issues related to civilian capacities in peace operations, and during the first half of 2011 he has been a consultant for the Norwegian Peacebuilding Centre and the Norwegian MFA supporting a revision of Norway’s support to civilian crisis management and secondment of civilian capacity to the UN, EU, AU and OSCE. He is currently developing a research project on local ownership and humanitarian activities.
