New publication on disarmament, demobilization and reintegration (DDR) aims to bring research on DDR closer to practitioners.
"Fresh Insights on Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration: A Survey for Practitioners" is written by Tatjana Stankovic and Stina Torjesen (NUPI) and reviewed by Robert Muggah (Small Arms Survey) and Cornelis Steenken (UN Inter Agency Working Group on DDR).
In an easy and accessible way, this publication presents key academic findings on disarmament, demobilization and reintegration (DDR). It assesses long-term effects of DDR, the importance of context, programming and procedures. The report also highlights recent innovation in the DDR field, including the move towards ´second generation DDR´ and the greater focus on community. It also includes a comprehensive list of relevant literature. The publication aims to make research on DDR more available to a wider audience and promote a dialogue between researchers and practitioners.
