NUPI researchers to analyse EU's performance in NATO
Researchers at NUPI's Department of International Politics will participate in a four-year international research project, "Measuring the Performance of the European Union in International Institutions" (EUPERFORM), funded by The European Science Foundation (ESF).
The project will analyse the European Union as a global actor based on studies of the EU's ability to influence international organisations. NUPI will explore EU's influence in NATO. Senior Researcher and Head of the Department of International Politics, Nina Græger is project leader at NUPI. Other participants from the department are Walter Carlsnaes, Kristin M. Haugevik and Pernille Rieker (from 2012).
This collaborative research project in particular aims to:
- Increase scholarly knowledge of the role of the EU as a global actor
- Develop and advance academic understanding on performance as a dependent variable in institutional interaction
- Identify key factors influencing the EU’s performance in the selected international institutions
- Strengthen the research community and academic network addressing the role of the EU in international institutions and, more generally, in multilateralism.
Partners in the project are University of Aarhus (Department of Political Science), which will coordinate the project, and Institut Barcelona d’Estudis Internacionals (IBEI). Associated partners are University of Bologna-Sede di Forlì (the Faculty of Political Sciences 'R. Ruffilli'), the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (The Institute for European Studies) and The University of Twente (Centre for European Studies) in the Netherlands.
