The programme studies the role of regional multilateral organisations (EU, NATO, OSCE) in international politics, including in international operations, counter terrorism and security sector reform, as well as developments in transatlantic relations. The research focuses, among other things on the significance these organisations have for the individual countries, particularly Norway's security and defense policy. Other countries that have particular interest in the program are the United Kingdom, France, Germany, and Scandinavia.
The programme builds on the three-year, NFR-funded program European Security: Europe as Actor and Arena (2003-2006) and seeks to combine fundamental research with applied research of relevance to Norwegian foreign and security policy debate.
