Sports and Reconciliation

[2006-2009]Sports and Reconciliation

The objective of the project is to establish knowledge on how and to what extent sports can serve as a tool for reconciliation between people and states previously in conflict.
Cooperation with the Rafto Human Rights House Participants

Sports and reconciliation is a project in cooperation with the Rafto Human Rights House in Bergen.

The main research question is: Can sports contribute to reconciling people and states that have been in conflict? Which conditions need to be present and what are the results of previous projects that have worked with this?

Norwegian and internationally financed projects that have run peace-building processes using sports as a tool have not been thoroughly evaluated and there is a general lack of knowledge about sports as a reconciliatory instrument.

The project will operate through seminar-series, network-building and research on various constellations of sports and reconciliation. The objective is to generate new knowledge on this relation.
