The Norwegian Institute of International Affairs has the great pleasure of inviting you to a lecture by the foreign minister

 

Dr. Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury, Hon'ble Foreign Adviser of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh

 

Dr. Chowdhury will also focus upon the UN's role in the development of the Least Developed Countries (LDC).

Dr. Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury was sworn in as Minister of Foreign Affairs on 18 January 2007. He has served as Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York from 2001-2007 and Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva from 1996-2000. During his long period in New York and Geneva he has held many high level positions in the UN system, among them Vice President of the United Nations General Assembly, and Vice Chairman of UNICEF. Dr. Chowdhury has worked with the United Nations reform process as a facilitator appointed by the President of the United Nations General Assembly. He was responsible for conducting negotiations on the paragraphs on "Responsibility to Protect" in the United Nations reform document.
