Russia's energy strategy

07.07.2011Russia's energy strategy

Jakub Godzimirski looks into Russia's energy strategy in the post-2008 crisis period.

Jakub M. Godzmirskis recent article "Russlands eksterne energistrategi: utfordringer og muligheter" in the Norwegian language journal Nordisk Østforum, deals with Russia's energy strategy after the crisis in 2008. Godzmirski focuses particularly on Russia's energy relations with the EU and Germany.

Godzmirski states that Russian energy strategy is shaped by a mix of domestic and global political, economic, social and technological factors and he discusses some of Russia's strenghts and weaknesses as an actor on the global energy market.

He argues that the future of Russia as a competitive energy actor depends on the ability of its decision-makers to make use of the opportunities presented by the post-2008 crisis recovery to transform Russia in the context of an increasingly competitive global energy environment.
