NUPI’s Department of Development Studies focuses on development processes in the South, and the interplay between these processes and Norwegian foreign policy.
Civil war and state collapse require a code of conduct which includes development perspectives and security analyses. Other studies at the department relate to gender, conflict and peace building, women’s involvement in politics and in the role of civil society in processes of change. Furthermore, analyses of development assistance and the UN system are important areas. The department also participates in evaluating various development projects.
